Ice hockey for everyone
New to ice hockey? You're in good company! Most our players are new to the game, so you can expect plenty of wobbly skating and a few falls.
There is no formal training in our sessions. We just skate around a bit to warm up and then start playing short, non-stop games . It's a great way to learn that focuses on having fun.
If you have played before then please take it easy and try to help the newer players get the puck and have a good game as they learn the basics.
How it works
Arrival time, teams, games, and what to bring
β°
Sessions
We meet every few weeks at Avondale Ice Rink when the ice is available. The games start at 4.15pm sharp and it is important to get there early so you have time to get into a team and get your skates on. We recommend you arrive by 4pm at the latest.
βΈοΈ
Equipment
You can pick up your skates, stick and helmet from the rentals counter on your way in. No need to pay for rentals - just tell the staff you are there for the hockey session.

Teams
We will put together teams on the day, by giving everyone a sticker with a number showing the team they are in. If you want to be in a team with your mates or family that's fine. Or if you're solo we will assign you some friendly teammates.
π
Games
We split the ice into 2 or 3 sections so we can run multiple games at once and everyone gets loads of time on the ice. Games last a few minutes and then we switch around so different teams get to play each other. No one keeps score - it's all about having fun!
π
What to bring
To maximise your comfort, we recommend bringing:
Warm clothes
Pair of gloves
Long/thick socks
Water bottle
You can borrow ice skates, stick and helmet at the ice rink.
π°
Lockers
We recommend leaving your valuables at home, but if you need a locker you can rent one at the rink for $3 (bring gold coins).

Parents and guardians
We require you to actively supervise your kids at all times if they are under 12 years old. We will be very busy on the day running the session and cannot take responsibility for babysitting children. You are very welcome to join a team and play in the games - ice hockey is fun for all ages, and a great way to connect with your kids!
